Default Box fill

The blue 2-gang romex box reads on the inside that it is for 16 #14 wires so many 12's etc. Are they considering a 14-2 with ground one wire or three wires? What about a 14-3 with ground. Thanks in advance. HS

All grounds count as 1 wire, all others count as single wires. 3#14/2 w g is counted as 7 wires, plus the device will count as 2 each. So a 2 gang box that allows 16, #14 wires and has 2 switches in it will only allow 14 wires.
Hope that answer your question

Got the first part, but I'm coming up with 12 in your second example. Did i miss something? Also, If a guy likes to pigtail to the outlets do those wires get counted? Makes more sense now, i thought 16 pcs of romex in a box seemed like alot. Thanks again. HS

Math was never my strong suite!! You are right, I forgot a switch! The pigtails do not count.
